On January 3, 2019, Randy succumbed to ALS. We miss him in so many ways.
Erin, Lauren and I feel his absence every day. I miss having someone to talk to and travel and enjoy life with. I struggle with “being in charge” of the things he did without thought and with skill. Lauren and Erin miss their dad - his patience, guidance and knowledge about so many things.
Randy wasn’t here to witness the birth of his grandchildren – who he would love and enjoy so much. But we are convinced he is looking over them when we see them as infants laughing at a blank wall or hear their laughter when they are alone in a room. He is with them. Erin makes sure she talks about “papa” to Hunter and Isla. Randy’s picture is on display on their mantel and Hunter knows “papa” used to deliver mail in his early days at the post office. When Hunter sees a mail truck go by, he says, “Papa?” He knows he is in heaven now.
June 2 is Randy’s birthday. As we gear up again for our annual “Team Randy” walk for ALS, let’s take a moment to remember his with love and commit again to raising funds for the Upstate Chapter of the ALS Association. Donate now. Watch for details on the walk.
