Randy Jevis had been living with ALS for two years when he knew it was time to admit that he’d never drive his beloved “Triple Black 50th Anniversary Edition” Corvette again. It was time to sell it. He put out an advertisement, and for some strange reason he turned down a few offers. Then, for some other strange reason, it seemed like the right person came along. The man arrived at Randy’s house with $20,000 in cash. Randy explained that due to his illness, he could no longer drive the car but he wanted it to go to someone who would love it as much as he had.
The man explained that he had recently learned that he, too, was terminally ill. His dream had always been to travel Route 66 in a Corvette. So he had retired from his job, cashed out his retirement money, and with that $20,000, he hoped to fulfill his dream. When the man left with the title to the Corvette, he hugged Randy and said “I’ll see you in Heaven.”
I like to think that the man who bought Randy’s Corvette drove every mile of Route 66 with love in his heart and Randy on his mind. And I hope that he and Randy have found each other in Heaven, where they’re swapping stories about life, love, and the magic that happens behind the wheel of a Corvette.
Please help us find a cure for ALS. It took away Randy’s Corvette and his life. We can end this heartbreak. Click on the DONATE button to give a gift of any amount, no matter how small you think it is. Every dollar matters. Thank you!
